A man allegedly living and working in Austin who repeatedly stole energy drinks and was later found to be violating his conditions as a predatory offender was sentenced to prison time on Friday.

Bryant Artee Mapp, 32, from Minneapolis, was sentenced to 16 months in prison for failing to inform the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension of his changes. Police first arrested Mapp in January when Austin Kwik Trip employees suspected him of stealing energy drinks and later caught him on surveillance, according to the court complaint. Authorities searched Mapp’s criminal history and found that he was convicted of criminal sexual conduct in Illinois, registered as a predatory offender and was supposed to be living in Minneapolis.

Police arrested Mapp days later on a search warrant at the 800 block of Sixth Street NW in Austin. When the officer asked Mapp if he lived there, Mapp immediately said he lived in Minneapolis, according to the court complaint. However, the complaint also states that authorities found postal records that Mapp changed his address to that location. A woman living with Mapp also asked Mapp why he was lying about not living in Austin, according to the report. The woman gave authorities records that proved Mapp was working at Austin Packaging Co.; however, Mapp mentioned that he never stayed in Austin and would commute from Minneapolis. The woman mentioned that she did not know Mapp was a predatory offender and became very upset with him, as well, the complaint adds. Mapp didn’t say why he failed to notify officials that he was working in Austin.
