ROCHESTER — The Austin baseball team closed out its regular season with a 9-2 loss to Rochester John Marshall (15-5 overall, 14-4 Big Nine) in Rochester Tuesday.
JM won the Big Nine title with the victory as Rochester Century lost 6-4 to Rochester Mayo.
The Rockets pitched their ace in Ryan Lakin, but the Packers (6-14 overall, 5-13 Big Nine) led 2-1 after three innings as Gabe Kasak doubled and scored and hit an inside the park homerun.
JM took the lead when it scored three times in the fourth.
“It was a close game and we just ran into a bad inning,” Austin head coach Troy Watkins said. “But it wasn’t all bad. We hit the ball hard against their ace and Nik Gasner pitched a pretty good game.”
The Packers finished sixth in the Big Nine and they will open the Section 1AAA tournament this Saturday.
