Authorities suspect arson in car fire

The Austin Fire Department and detectives are investigating a suspected arson after a car erupted in flames early Thursday morning.

According to Police Chief Brian Krueger, police went to the 1400 block of Sixth Street SE where a bystander was attempting to extinguish a flaming 2007 Honda Accord with a garden hose.

When firefighters extinguished the blaze, they reportedly found a rock and a large bottle with a flammable liquid in the rear of the car.

The woman reportedly told officials she noticed the flames while driving by and grabbed a nearby garden hose to help. She also noticed the rear, driver’s side window was broken, as well.

Police have not listed any suspects, and the case is being investigated by detectives.
