The Austin Area Art Center is gearing up for yet another workshop, one of several this spring.
Joni Finnegan will teach participants the art of plein air oil painting on May 18 and 19 at the art center in the Oak Park Mall.
According to a news release, Finnegan will equip participants to express their artistic talent by guiding them in the mechanics of painting, understanding that each painting should be a reflection of the individual’s own inner voice. She will ask students to begin with an idea of what they would like to paint. Participants should bring many reference photos in case of bad weather. Finnegan will also cover color, value, and will teach how to enhance concept or theme with color and value. She will then discuss how to draw edges and perspective with the tools to refine and control the value color and design of the painting. She will explain how to quickly make decision to help keep paintings fresh and open.
The two-day class will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an hour lunch break. Cost for this class is $180 for non-members and $155 for members. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required.
