Local law enforcement officials are looking for a man who posed as the Mower County sheriff and allegedly conned an area woman out of $1,300 earlier this week.

According to Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi, the suspect told the woman that he was actually the sheriff and would personally deliver the woman a large amount of winnings if she purchased $1,300 in Walmart gift cards. The thief also allegedly told the woman the president of U.S. Bank would accompany him on the delivery.

The alleged thief took the gift cards from the woman after she purchased them and said he needed to take them to the courthouse. He never contacted the victim after that point.
