Pacelli to induct new hall of fame members

Pacelli High School will induct six new members into its athletic hall of fame at a dinner hosted by the Pacelli Booster Club on Pacelli Golf Day on June 22.

The inductees include Ed Hanson, Norm Blaser, Roger Wistrcill, Tom Von Feldt, Pete Rockers, and Scott Bissen.

Ed Hanson, class of 1962

Hanson was a three-sport athlete who was a three-year letter winner and starting running back on the 1961 state champion football team.

In basketball, he was a two-year letter winner and leading scorer on the 1961 and 1962 teams.

In track, he was a three-year letter winner and state champion in the low hurdles in 1962.

Hanson went on to play two years of basketball at Austin Community College, play two years of football at Winona State and coached the 1968 state champion baseball team in Trempelau, Wis.

Norm Blaser, class of 1964

Blaser coached the Pacelli volleyball team to a record of 313-162 in his tenure and also coached boys and girls tennis, and boys golf.

Blaser was an employee of the Austin Catholic Schools for 41 years: 30 years as a teacher, seven years as an administrator, and four years as the Development Director.

As the Development Director he served three years on the Board of Directors of Minnesota Independent Schools and raised over two million dollars for the Catholic Schools in Austin.

Roger Wistrcill, class of 1964

Wistrcill played football, basketball and baseball and he was named to the all-state football team in 1963.

He went on to play football for four years at Winona State and went on to work as a teacher, coach and principal for a total of 35 years in Cumberland, Wis.

Tom Von Feldt, class of 1965

Von Feldt played football, basketball and baseball and was a member of the 1965 state champion basketball team and the 1965 state champion baseball team.

He went on to play football for four years at Winona State, where he was twice voted All-Conference.

Pete Rockers, class of 1977

Rockers played football, basketball and baseball and was named team MVP in football and baseball his junior year.

Rockers set many passing records in his junior and senior year at Pacelli and he went on to start at quarterback at St. John’s University for two years.

Scott Bissen, class of 1984

Bissen was a five-year letter winner, three-time all-state selection and was a high school honorable mention in 1983 and 1984. He competed in the state track meet four years as anchor for the 4 x 100 state champs in 1983 and 1984, an anchor for the 4 x 400 state champs in 1983, and he took second in the 100-meter dash in 1983 with a school record time of 10.8 seconds.

Bissen, who went on to run track at Mankato State University, was also a starting wide receiver and safety for three years for the Pacelli football team and he was a two-year letter winner in wrestling.
