ST. PAUL, Minn. — There’s a move brewing in the Legislature to make this year’s Minnesota fishing opener more mom-friendly.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Wednesday (http://bit.ly/HkB1Po ) that the state House has approved a game and fish bill with a provision to shift this year’s game-fishing season up a week to May 5. That would save the previously scheduled May 12 opener from conflicting with Mother’s Day on May 13.
Senate Minority Leader Tom Bakk is pushing to make the change in the Senate as well. The House game and fish bill contains several unrelated policy changes opposed by Gov. Mark Dayton, and a spokeswoman tells the Pioneer Press the governor is currently undecided on the early opener.
