It wasn’t an ideal day for golf, but Lyle-Pacelli’s top two golfers on its boys team made the best of it at River Oaks Golf Course Monday.
LP senior Max Brennan and junior Spencer Holtorf were co-medalists as the Athletics edged out Grand Meadow-LeRoy-Ostrander by a score of 202-209.
Brennan and Holtorf each shot a 47, with temperatures dipping in the low 40s to go along with heavy wind gusts.
“It was pretty chilly and windy, but it was like that last Friday in Lanesboro so we had a little practice in it,” Brennan said. “It was a little hard to deal with it, but you toughen up and you can play in anything.”
Holtorf said that playing with Brennan has helped him raise his own game and the two have pushed each other in meets.
“We compete against each other and I thought we played pretty well today,” Holtorf said.
Brennan said he’s hoping that Holtorf can help raise him to new heights this season.
“We’re at about the same level,” Brennan said of Holtorf. “We’re hoping to lead the team and take it down a couple of strokes.”
GMLO eighth grader Tyler Sloan led the Bulldogs with as he shot a 50.
The LP girls put up a score of 243 as Jennie Marx took home medalist honors by shooting a 50. GMLO, which had an incomplete team score, was led by Kaitlin Kling, who shot a 56.
