Sprouts Get Out and Grow, a garden and cooking program for kids, will launch its second season with a planting party at Hy-Vee from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday.
The event, originally scheduled for Saturday morning, was postponed due to rainy, cold weather.
Children of all ages are invited to stop by the garden area in the store’s parking lot to learn about cancer-fighting vegetables, help plant the garden, make a healthy snack, get their photo taken in a milk mustache and much more.
Information about registering for upcoming garden classes will also be available during the free event.
The Sprouts Get Out and Grow program was created and implemented last year by Austin Hy-Vee dietitian Jen Haugen in partnership with the Austin Public Schools. The goal of the program is to help kids between the ages of three and nine connect fresh food to good health by growing their own vegetables, then cooking them in an outdoor classroom.
