A large firework explosion that damaged an Austin apartment on Tuesday morning has Austin Police and homeowners puzzled.

According to Police Chief Brian Krueger, Austin Police are looking for someone who reportedly set off a large, cylindrical firework that blew out a window and broke a door frame at apartments in the 400 block of Second Street SE. Neighbors who heard the explosion notified authorities after they saw a very bright flash, heard the explosion and could then smell what appeared to be sulfur.

Police and firefighters responded to the scene; however, Krueger mentioned that the apartment did not catch fire, and no utilities were damaged or bystanders hurt.

Krueger said the tenants returned and reportedly had no clue what happened or who would have done it.
