The Easter Bunny once again reminded me that Easter is this weekend. He is in town for an early appearance, likely hiding his colorful eggs in the most clever of places, I suspect. Don’t believe me? Ask around. He made multiple appearances around Austin on Thursday, including the Herald. He didn’t buy a paper, though. The Easter Bunny can’t read, which is why we need to tell him in person about these upcoming Austin events.

1. Easter carnival

What would Easter be for the kids without some fun and games? Westminster Presbyterian Church at 802 Fourth St. SW is holding a free Easter carnival from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Activities include a puppet show, games, treats, and of course, an Easter egg hunt.

2. Ukrainian Easter eggs

When it comes to painting Easter eggs, perhaps the Ukrainians just do it better. And perhaps that’s why the Austin Area Art Center is holding its Ukrainian Eggs class for families and children from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at its location in Oak Park Mall. Registration is $56 for non-members and $48 for members.

3. Mystery: Jerusalem

Faith Evangelical Free Church is certainly putting in its work for Easter. Among all its Easter festivities, the church is holding another this weekend, with Mystery: Jerusalem, a children’s event. Kids can get hands-on with the actors, become little detectives and discover for themselves what really happened to Jesus. The free event takes place from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday at Faith Church, 1800 12th St. SW.

 4. Easter dinner

Not everybody gets to celebrate Easter with others, but Christ Episcopal Church, 301 Third Ave. NW, is reaching out to take that stress off some people’s shoulders. The church is holding its 14th annual free community Easter dinner at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Call the church at 507-433-3782 if you wish to attend.

Other Events

Don’t forget, Faith Church is also showing Redemption’s Road one more time on Sunday, and the next week offers a few change-ups, as well. Spring sports are underway, including baseball, softball, track, golf and tennis.

Ready to buy a house? A free homebuyers’ course will be offered at Riverland Community College next week, as well.
