An Austin man who was convicted of first-degree burglary in January 2010 and sentenced to 10 years’ probation must now serve prison time.

Joshua Steven Solberg, 27, was sentenced to 57 months in state prison. He must submit a DNA sample and register as a predatory offender, as well. Four felony charges for allegedly breaking into homes and assaulting a person in February 2012 were dismissed.

According to a criminal complaint, Solberg pointed a shotgun at a woman’s face on June 19, 2010 after breaking into her home. Solberg then left the area with his shotgun in a truck.

With the gun pointed at the woman, Solberg said the kids the two had together were better off in foster care, the complaint states. He also ejected and replaced several shells from the gun, likely to prove that is was loaded, and threatened to kill the woman and himself, according to the complaint.

The woman tried to flee, but Solberg choked her and covered her head with pillows to keep her from screaming, the complaint states. The woman made several more attempts to leave the room, but Solberg allegedly continued to block her. Eventually, she was able to get out of the room and leave with her child, the complaint states.

Police later found Solberg’s vehicle parked in his parents’ garage and arrested him

Solberg was also convicted 2011 for breaking into a woman’s house through the basement window in May 2010. According to that complaint, he tried to take the woman’s phone, which resulted in a struggle between the two and left the woman with injuries.
