Austin falls to West, 6-1

The Austin Packers boys tennis team lost to Mankato West 6-1 Tuesday afternoon at Paulson Courts.

Bob Sherman picked up Austin’s only win on the day at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win over West’s Jacob Olsen.

“We had a nice win No. 2 singles with with Bob (Sherman),” head coach Tony Taushnitz said. “He won rather convincingly.”

Pat Wagner lost to Bill Leitch at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-2 while Colton Detweiler and Jeremy Olmsted both fell at No. 3 and No. 4 singles respectively, but not without some fight.

Detweiler lost his match to Eric Pipes 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 and Olmsted lost to David Pietsch 6-2 and 6-4.

“We had good experiences at three and four,” Taushnitz said. “With both being freshman they were under some pressure and they handled it well.”

Ethan Larson and Nick Brehmer lost to Alex Wright and Kieran Townsend 7-6(7-5) and 6-2. Ethan Anderson and Noah Brehmer lost to Kyle Sandman and Yinshuo Zhang, 6-4, 7-6(8-6) at No. 2 doubles.

West’s Isaiah Stock and Dan Berry defeated Cole Nichol and Seth Hebrink, 7-6(8-6), 6-0.

Austin moves to 2-2 overall.
