Two Bulldogs win and two Packers fall short at openining round of state wrestling meet

ST. PAUL – Two Austin wrestlers lost their first round matchups but two GMLOK wrestlers moved on at the Class ‘AA’ state wrestling meet at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Friday.

Austin’s Devon Felten lost his first match at state when he was pinned with 31 seconds left in the third period against Scott West’s Zach Siegle at 113 pounds.

Felten, who is 22-8, will now compete in the wrestlebacks round.

Austin’s Brennan Russell was pinned in the first period by Cody Weiland of Crookston at 126 pounds.

Russell, who is 28-9, will now compete in wrestlebacks.

Grand Meadow-LeRoy-Ostrander-Kingsland senior Noah Schlee won his first round match at 126 and has advanced to the quarterfinals. Schlee pinned Reid Johnson of North Branch in the second period and will now take on Ben Henle of New London Spicer.

Henle is 14-5 and Schlee is 34-3.

GMLOK’s Lucas Roe won his first round match 7-0 over Lucas Schoen of Delano at 152. Roe, who is 34-4, will now take on Pat Hopkins, who is 35-2, of Grand Rapids in the quarterfinals.
