Riverland softball team will lack experience

The Riverland softball team will be thin on experience and numbers this season in Al Eckman’s first year as head coach.

The Blue Devils, who have 11 players on their roster, will rely on three pitchers who haven’t done a lot of pitching before as Robin Arjes, Bridget Bergstrom and Sara Sundberg will all see time in the circle.

Offensively, RCC has some solid bats as Sundberg and Arjes were solid hitters when they played for Austin High School and second baseman Whitney Bamrick was a leader for Southland last season.

“We’ve just got to get these girls some collegiate experience and once we do that, we’ll be OK,” Eckman said.

RCC opened its season in Kansas recently, where it lost all six games it played.

“We lost all of the games, but we learned a lot about our kids and what we can expect from them,” Eckman said.

RCC is scheduled to host NIACC in a doubleheader Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
