Pennies for pies

Last week Southgate Elementary took part in raising money for Pennies for Patients. All week long students brought in coins and dollars. The school also had fun dress-up days, including a day where people wore purple and orange (purple because lavender is the color of cancer awareness and orange because it is the official color of leukemia awareness). Last year the school raised $2,667.10, so the goals this year were $2,000 for a bounce house day this spring, $2,500 for a bunch of the teachers to get pies thrown in their faces, and $3,000 for Principal Harder to dye her hair green and blue. In total students raised $2,918.79. — Photo provided
