The Austin City Council have some big boundaries to set at its upcoming City Council meeting Monday.
Council members will officially define the powers and duties of City Administrator Jim Hurm, as the administrator position isn’t technically defined in the city charter, though it is defined by the city code. Questions over the administrator’s duties arose when council members conducted Hurm’s evaluation.
In addition, the council will discuss the future of the Fire Committee. The committee was formed in 2009 to review fire department issues, make recommendations and work toward goals like proper scheduling and contract negotiations.
Council members will discuss a process for property owners to remove sidewalk from their property at a work session Monday. The issues comes after residents came before the council last month upset with some of the city’s street improvement projects, with eight people successfully convincing the council to approve a street project on 22nd Avenue SW from 12th to 16th Street SW without putting in new sidewalk by a 4-3 vote.
Several residents who already had sidewalk asked the council to have city workers remove their sidewalk, but City Engineer Jon Erichson said there wasn’t a process for that and the council agreed to examine the issue.
