Blue Earth upsets Southland girls in OT

ADAMS — The Southland girls basketball team saw its season come to an end for at the hands of Blue Earth for the second straight season when it lost 71-68 in overtime in Adams Friday.

The No. 2 seeded Rebels (24-4 overall) had a chance to win the game at regulation but Blue Earth (20-5 overall) forced stripped the ball away as time expired.

No. 3 Blue Earth opened the overtime with five straight points.

Southland, which was led by senior forward Madi Schmitz, who scored 20 points, fought back, but didn’t have enough.

Camille Driscoll led Blue Earth with 19 points.

“It was a great season and you’re not going to find a classier group of girls to work with,” Southland head coach Bob Sheehan said.
