Best Bets: Easter celebrations lead week’s events

Published 11:00 am Friday, March 30, 2012

Unwind with a little laughter, music and visual performance this weekend. The Paramount has plenty to offer; Faith Evangelical Free Church has its own new spin on things, and the town of Adams is raising money for good causes.

Music and laughter

In fact, laughter and music is all wrapped into one starting 7:30 p.m. this Friday when Lou and Peter Berryman hit the Paramount Theatre, 125 Fourth Ave. NE, with their comedic music routines. Admission is free; that’s right.

Rummage sale

Get out of town. Though Austinites may seldom make trips to do shopping in Adams, Saturday may be the best opportunity to do so.

The Sacred Heart School is supporting itself with its annual rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Little Cedar Church is also hosting a fundraiser for the Adams Booster Club, as well, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

3.) Take it … to the Paramount … one more time — at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The Fabulous Armadillos and Collective Unconscious will team up to perform “Takin’ it to the Limit, an Eagles Tribute.” Tickets are $15 in advance, $17 at the door and $5 for students.

4.) Then get back on the right track: “Redemption’s Road,” that is. Faith Evangelical Free Church, 1800 12th St. SW is holding a series of performances beginning 2 p.m. this Sunday. Experience hands-on performances about the journey to the cross, and say hi to four different Jesuses. Admission is $5, and performances run several times throughout the next week, as well.

Look for more live stations of the cross performances at area churches throughout the week, including St. Augustine Church and St. John’s Lutheran. Other Easter-centered events include egg painting at the Austin Area Art Center, a free community meal at Christ Episcopal Church, and of course, Easter on April 8.
