An Austin resident has won $10,000, and an Ellendale woman has won $100,000, both playing scratch games.
Ashley Ledoux won $10,000 playing the Minnesota Lottery’s Funky 5s scratch game. She claimed the prize March 19. She purchased the ticket at Hy-Vee Foods in Austin.
Mavis Roberts, 79, claimed her $100,000 prize at the lottery headquarters in Roseville on Wednesday. She won it last week after purchasing a $5 scratch game ticket at Albert Lea’s Hy-Vee.
Roberts said she purchased two $5 Gopher the Big Money scratch games when buying groceries. She said she didn’t think much about it.
When she saw that one was a $100,000 winner, she said she was “very shocked.”
“It was just a freak deal, but I’m really happy about it,” Roberts said.
She said she’s been buying lottery tickets for at least 10 years, and she’s been lucky before — winning $1,000 and $5,000, but never anything more.
She plans to use the money to clean up more of the damage at her home from a June 17, 2010, tornado not covered by her insurance.
According to a news release, there are still three $100,000 Gopher the Big Money prizes to be claimed.
