A 56-year-old man is lucky to be alive after getting CPR for more than an hour and two defibrillator shocks Sunday.

Mower County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in rural Racine after a wife reported her husband had fallen down and was making odd sounds, according to Sheriff Terese Amazi.

Mower County Sheriff’s deputies responded a little after 3 p.m. Sunday to find the wife performing CPR on her husband. The deputies’ Automatic Electronic Defibrillator didn’t advise shocking the man’s heart at first, but they eventually tried to once deputies couldn’t resuscitate the man via CPR.

Grand Meadow and Stewartville First Responders arrived to the scene along with Mayo One. The man received two shocks from the defibrillator and CPR from the First Responders and paramedics as well.

The man was flown to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester via Mayo One. Amazi did not release the man’s name and said his condition was unknown.
