While many local retired business professionals have joined SCORE (Service Corp of Retired Executives), one has been going strong much longer than others.
Harold Mattfeld, who recently turned 100, recalls joining SCORE in 1972, shortly after he retired, and a friend urged him to join. Mattfeld also recalls being roughly the third member to join the local group.
SCORE District Director Dean Swanson recently awarded Mattfeld with a certificate of appreciation for his “dedication and commitment to SCORE and volunteerism on behalf of the small business community.”
Mattfeld, who moved to Austin in 1951, opened his own business that year, Cashway Lumber.
