The Riverland women’s basketball team kept itself in postseason contention when it led for most of the night in a 58-40 win over Ridgewater (5-17 overall, 2-8 MCAC South) in Riverland Gym Wednesday.

The Blue Devils (13-12 overall, 4-6 MCAC South) used a 14-0 run that saw them jump out to a 29-9 lead with 5:30 left in the first half and it was smooth sailing from that point on.

Robin Arjes, who had nine points and four rebounds, had six points during RCC’s early run and seven Blue Devil players scored at least five points.

“It like that kind of night,” Riverland center Rebekah Aase, who had 10 points, five rebounds and five assists, said of the balanced scoring. “We came out strong and finished with a win.”

Aase, who graduated from Austin High School a year before Arjes, played her last home game with Arjes in Riverland gym on Wednesday. Aase is a freshman at RCC and Arjes is a sophomore.

“Before the game I asked Robin if she was sad that this was her last game here and it was weird because she said the same thing to me before my last game at home in high school,” Aase said.

Albert Lea grad Skyler Anderson had four points, four assists and four steals for RCC.
