MANKATO — An ill-timed foul and turnover proved costly to the Packers as they lost 68-66 at Mankato West (7-15 overall, 6-8 Big Nine) in a girls basketball game Thursday.

Austin (8-12 overall, 5-9 Big Nine) took a 66-65 lead with 20 seconds left when Jenna Svoboda, who had 16 points and 14 rebounds, hit a three-pointer, but the Packers fouled the Scarlets in a double bonus and West hit both free throws to take the lead.

“Fouling was the last thing we wanted to happen right there,” Austin head coach Gary Peterson said.

The Packers got the ball back, but committed a turnover with seven seconds left in the game.

Austin scored the first six points of the game and it led 31-22 at the half, but West took the lead early in the second frame.

“This was a game we could’ve had if we played a little smarter in the second half,” Peterson said.
