STILLWATER, Minn. — A Maplewood man has been sentenced to a year in jail and 10 years probation for a May 2010 crash that killed a Minnesota National Guard member who served in Iraq.
Anthony Mancheski, 21, was sentenced Friday in Washington County court. He pleaded guilty in November to criminal vehicular homicide.
Mancheski was driving almost 90 mph on U.S. 61 when he lost control of his BMW just north of the Mississippi Bridge in Hastings and hit two vehicles while crossing into oncoming traffic, where his car collided with a semitrailer.
The crash mangled Brian Jacobson’s Saturn sedan, killing him instantly. Jacobson, 34, of Lake City, served two tours in Iraq as part of the 434th Chemical Company.
“You can’t repair what you did to that family,” Judge Mary Hannon said to Mancheski. “But you can change yourself.”
