Mower County is still on the leading edge of wind energy in Minnesota.
Mower led the state for counties receiving dollars from the Wind Energy Production Tax with about $1.42 million overall in 2011, up from $1.37 million in 2010.
βItβs a huge benefit for Mower County,β Tucker said.
The money goes into the general fund, and Tucker said it keeps down property tax increases.
Commissioners in Mower and many counties are looking to keep the tax from being restricted as part of levy limits.
Eighty percent of the tax goes to counties, and 20 percent goes to townships.
Murray County received the second highest amount with $1.2 million. Freeborn County received $69,000.
