Area wrestlers are ready for state meet

Five area wrestlers will be competing at the state wrestling meet at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Friday.

Austin junior Devon Felten, who is 22-7 at 113-pounds, is making his second straight trip to the state meet and he will open with Zach Siegle, a 30-8 sophomore from Scott West.

Siegle is ranked No. 6 in Class ‘AA’ and Felten is No. 10.

Austin junior Brennen Russell, who is 28-8 at 126, is making his first trip to the state meet, He will open with Cody Weiland, a 34-4 freshman from Crookston.

Weiland is ranked No. 9 in Class ‘AA.’

Grand Meadow-LeRoy-Ostrander-Kingsland senior Noah Schlee, who is 33-3 at 126, is making his first trip to the state meet. Schlee will open with Reid Johnson, a 32-13 sophomore from North Branch.

Schlee is ranked No. 6 in Class ‘AA.’

Lucas Roe, a GMLOK senior who is 33-4 at 152, is making his first state meet appearance. He will open up with Lucas Schoen, a 19-18 senior from Delano.

Roe is ranked No. 7 in Class ‘AA.’

In Class ‘A’ Blooming Prairie junior Jarrod Grunklee, who is 29-10 this season at 285, is making his first career state wrestling meet appearance.

He will open with Cooper Blau, a 23-10 senior from Aitkin. Blau is ranked No. 10 in Class ‘A.’

The state meet will begin Friday at 11 a.m. and the finals will be held Saturday at 1:15 p.m.
