Alvin D. Mensing, 61, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Central Health Care Center in Le Center, Minn.

He was born March 6, 1950, in Owatonna, Minn., the son of Donald and Ramona (Jensen) Mensing.

He attended Owatonna Public School. He entered into the Army on Feb. 29, 1968 and served during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge on Feb. 22, 1970. He returned to Owatonna where he worked at the Owatonna Canning Company and later worked at Kenyon Meats in Kenyon. He married Jane Kirby on March 31, 1994, in Waseca and they resided in southern Minnesota and Powder Springs, Ga.

Alvin was an honorary member of the American Legion Rider Post 216 in Austelli, Ga., and lifetime

member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing pool, driving racecars, watching and attending NASCAR, and wrestling. He especially loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Mensing of Dallas, Ga.; sons, Brian Mensing of Mankato, and Michael Kirby of Faribault; daughter, Krystal (and Eufus) Musgrove of Dallas, Ga.; stepdaughters, Michelle (and Rodney) Robinson-Craft of Acworth, Ga., and Pam (and Juan) Venturi of Carroll, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; sister, Cindy (and Douglas) Fisher of Owatonna; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Dawn.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, from 2 to 3 p.m. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012 at Michaelson Funeral Home.
