A 21-year-old man was charged Thursday in Mower County Court for allegedly stalking a 14-year-old girl.
Javier Hernandez-Ortiz faces one count of stalking a victim younger than 18, one count of forgery/false identification and one count of giving a peace officer a false name. The first two charges are felonies.
Police arrested Hernandez-Ortiz at about 4:30 p.m. Feb. 12 near the 700 block of 12th Ave. NW after they received a call from the victim’s parents who were holding Hernandez-Ortiz, according to the court complaint.
The complaint also states the parents told the officer that Hernandez-Ortiz had followed their daughter home and was staring at their house from an alley. The victim also mentioned Hernandez-Ortiz was making strange noises toward her and saying “come here.” She also recognized the man from two other occasions — one in which Hernandez-Ortiz followed her and another when he followed a different girl last summer, according to the complaint.
Hernandez-Ortiz provided authorities with a Missouri identification card and claimed he was Mario Davila Jr., but authorities later discovered that Mario Davila Jr. is a registered sex offender in Texas didn’t match identity, according to the complaint. Authorities later discovered Hernandez-Ortiz’s identity when one of his relatives provided officials with Hernandez-Ortiz’s Mexico birth certificate and Mexico Matricula Card.
Hernandez-Ortiz is being held in Mower County Jail on $75,000 bail with no conditions or $25,000 bail with conditions. His pre-trial is set for March 30, 2012.
