Southland girls top Dover-Eyota

ADAMS — The Southland girls basketball team put itself right in the chase for the Three Rivers Conference title when it beat Dover-Eyota (17-4 overall, 13-2 Three Rivers) 80-64 in Adams Friday.

Southland junior Haley Kirkpatrick poured in 26 points to led the Rebels (13-2 overall, 9-2 Three Rivers) in the win.

“They were in a zone and Haley’s got a nice little ten-foot jump shot that she was knocking down,” Southland head coach Bob Sheehan said. “She was also crashing the boards and getting us second chance points.”

With the win, Southland moves into a tie with D-E in the conference.

“It’s a huge win for us and the conference championship is on our own hands now,” Sheehan said. “We control our own destiny.”

Southland lost to D-E 71-66 Dec. 13.
