Packer gymnasts tally best score of the season
The Austin gymnastics team continued to show its improvement as it notched a season’s best score of 142.15 to win the Farmington Invite Saturday.
“We have been waiting for the increased difficulty we added during the holiday break to begin to show up in our scores, and it finally did Saturday,” Austin head coach Mark Raymond said.
The Packers, who are ranked No. 5 in Class ‘A’, posted a a season-high score in the bars with a 34.45 as Sela Fadness, Abby Bickler, Carolyn Hackel, and Abby Snater all finished in the top six.
In the beam, Austin came up with three no fall routines as Fadness took first, Snater was third and Hackel took fourth.
On the floor, the Packers put up a season-high score of 37.65.
Fadness took first with a 9.6, Bickler was second with a 9.25 , Hackel was fourth with a 9.3 and Rachel Quandt took fifth with a 9.25.
“It’s been fun to watch all of the girls on the team challenge for positions on floor,” Raymond said. “Very few teams could have five or six girls break the 9.0 barrier on any given night.”
Austin had three girls in the top five in the vault as Fadness took first and Bawek and Bickler tied for fifth.
Austin has placed first in every event it has competed in this season.
