BYRON — Due to a band trip to Florida, the Hayfield girls basketball team had just one practice as a full team in the last eight days, but they still had enough to beat Byron (10-6 overall, 3-3 HVL Gold) 46-41 on the road Thursday.

Hayfield sophomore Jessie Foster had 10 points while making all five of her field goal attempts for the Vikings (8-9 overall, 2-3 HVL Gold) and she also played solid defense on one of Byron’s top three-point shooters.

“Jessie had a great game,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said. “She shot the ball well and she shut down their best shooter.”

Hayfield trailed by three at one point in the second half, but they switched up their defense and forced some turnovers to pull away.

Alyssa Selk went 9-for-12 from the free throw line and she hit eight of those free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
