Injuries caught up to the Austin girls hockey team as it lost 3-1 to Faribault (2-15 overall, 1-9 Big Nine) in Riverside Arena Thursday.
The Packers (7-9 overall, 4-5 Big Nine) played the game without senior defenseman Vanessa Talamantes, who suffered a cut to her chin in the loss to Dodge County, and two of the Packers’ forwards were also out with injuries.
The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Taylor Salmonsen and Lexus Tatge each scored in a one minute and 10 second spurt.
Eighth grader Mara Overby had 27 saves for the Packers.
“Mara played a good game,” Austin head coach Denny Bray said. “She made a fantastic save in the third period, but when the defense cleared it out, the puck hit another defenseman and bounced in the net to make it 3-0.”
