Though recent weather may not show it, January is a frigid month in Minnesota. That’s why some Austin High School students are doing their part to provide winter clothing and canned food to needy residents.

AHS’s Student Union is putting on a winter outerwear drive, called “Joy in January.” The drive, which runs Jan. 9 to Jan. 20, allows residents to donate winter outerwear and canned food to drop boxes around Austin.

“We live in Minnesota,” said AHS senior Matt Lunning, who is also SU president. “The weather here can be pretty brutal at times.”
