One lucky Austin High School sophomore knows the meaning of democracy well.

Megan Poczos is this year’s VFW Voice of Democracy essay contest winner. She also went on to win the VFW 1st District Voice of Democracy essay contest.

“Austin did pretty good this year,” said Al Landherr, Austin’s VFW Youth Program Chairman.

Poczos will go on to compete in the state Voice of Democracy contest next month.

Landherr said Ellis Middle School Voice of Democracy winners took second- and third-place at the district contest this year as well.

“It’s a very good program,” he said.
