The Austin boys hockey team put the pressure on Minnehaha Academy (5-3-2 overall), but the Packers came up short in a 4-3 loss at the Waseca Invite Thursday.

Minnehaha’s Ryan Leo put his team up for good with an early third period goal to make it 4-3.

“We played a complete game, which is good for a change. We were in it and gave ourselves a chance to win,” Austin head coach Tim Peterson said. “When we show up, we’re capable of beating just about anybody.”

Austin (2-7 overall) took a 3-2 lead in the second period when Marcus Stoulil scored two goals in a one minute and 15 second span, but Minnehaha tied things up three minutes later when Ryan Evenson scored.

The Packers killed nine power plays and stayed in the game, despite being out-shot 39-18.

Rainer Londino-Green stopped 34 saves for the Packers.

“Nick Castellano played a smart physical game and had some opportunities to make a difference and Rainer played a solid game in net,” Peterson said.
