The Hayfield boys basketball team had to hold on to get past Winona Cotter (4-3 overall, 0-1 HVL Gold) by a score of 54-51 in Hayfield Thursday.

The game was tied at 48 with four minutes left when Hayfield Brady Stevens, who finished with 15 points, scored back-to-back hoops. Cotter’s Bryan Richter hit a three to make it 52-51 with two minutes left but neither team scored again until Hayfield’s Bobbie Stephens hit two free throws with 1.5 seconds left.

The Vikings (5-2 overall, 3-0 HVL Gold) trailed for much of the first half and it was a back-and-forth game in the second half
