Goodhue knocks off Hayfield boys

The Hayfield boys basketball team couldn’t close out Goodhue (2-2 overall) in a 52-50 loss on the road Friday.
The Vikings (3-1 overall) had a chance to tie the game but Bobbie Stephens missed two clean looks in the closing seconds.
Hayfield had the ball up 50-49 with a minute to go when the turned the ball over and the Wildcats took the lead on a lob pass to Michael McNamara off an in-bounds.
The Vikings held a 25-15 lead with three minutes left in the first half, but the Wildcats closed that frame on a 15-0 run that saw them hit three threes.
“Turnovers killed us during that run and almost all of them led to points,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said.
Sophomore guard Cole Kruger had 14 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists for Hayfield.
