Cougars edge Packer boys hockey team 6-5

The Packers nearly doubled Mankato East (2-6 overall, 1-3 Big Nine) in shots, but they still fell short to Mankato East 6-5 in a boys hockey game in Mankato Saturday.

Austin (2-4 overall, 0-3 Big Nine) out-shot the Cougars 43-22, but East took the lead for good when Ben Neyers scored with 13:01 left in the game to make it 6-5.

Austin’s Marcus Stoulil tied the game at 5-5 when he scored a powerplay goal with 1:41 left in the second period. The Packers had led 3-1 after Ethan Larson netted a powerplay goal in the first period.

Rainer Londino Green had 16 saves for Austin.
