Best Bets: Wrapping up Christmas
Published 11:12 am Friday, December 23, 2011
Among last-minute shopping, tearing into presents, baking and feasting on holiday meals, there is a little room to squeeze in a few more events. And if you’re going to be celebrating Christmas, why not do it the right way, by heading to Church on either Christmas eve or Christmas Day.
1. Christmas around Austin
Christmas Eve service will take place at many Austin churches this weekend, including 4 p.m. at Faith Evangelical Free Church, 1800 12th St. SW, and 5:30 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 301 Third Ave. NW just to name a couple. There plenty of other churches holding services including on Christmas Day as well.
2. You pick the top stories of 2011
Not to toot our own horn, but hit up austindailyherald.com throughout this weekend and vote for 10 of your top-30 favorite stories from 2011. It’s quick; it’s easy, and we appreciate the input. The top 15 will be recapped in upcoming issues of the Herald.
3. Reading at the library
Just because Christmas is over next week doesn’t mean the kids won’t still have the nostalgia. Take them to one of the winter storytime readings at the Austin Public Library, 323 Fourth Ave. NE. There are several readings, starting 6 p.m. Tuesday, continuing 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
Other events
Don’t hit the Christmas weekend too hard. Next weekend is New Year’s Eve, and there is a trifecta of entertainment in town, featuring the Eagles Club, Paramount Theatre, and once again, the Eagles Club on New Year’s Day.
