Twice is Nice undergoes renovations

Twice is Nice owner Sandra Bell says the store is not closing but renovating. The Main Street Project renovations should be done by the end of the year. - Trey Mewes/trey.mewes@austindailyherald.com
Twice is Nice isn’t closing, employees will have you know.
Recent renovations have fueled rumors the store is closing, but employees said that’s far from the case.
They’re doing better than ever, and when the store’s Main Street Project renovations wrap up, Twice is Nice will look twice as nice.
Construction began towards the end of October, as Twice is Nice had its front completely redone. New windows and the original brick face to the building were put in.
“The brick was all in pretty good shape underneath,” Bell said. “You never know what you’re going to find in these old buildings.”
Even more restorations are on the way. Copper canopies will adorn the windows along with black wrought-iron fronts, giving the store a New York-storefront style. Two sets of French doors will be put in the front and back of the building as well. In all, renovations should wrap up by the end of December.
“It’s going to be neat,” Bell said.
For Bell, the Main Street Project is wonderful, since the group is paying for renovations to downtown stores, transforming them into more classic storefronts in an attempt to increase local business.
“I wouldn’t be able to do it without (Main Street),” Bell said. “There’s no way.”
