Man accused of attempting to choke girlfriend

One man is in jail after allegedly choking his live-in girlfriend.

Jorge Alfredo Hernandez-Maldonando, 22, is in Mower County Jail pending formal charges. He could be charged with felony strangulation and fifth-degree domestic assault, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger.

Krueger said police responded to a call at the 1400 block of Fourth Street NE and found Hernandez-Maldonado and his girlfriend, 20. The victim told police she had argued with Hernandez-Maldonado, which escalated into a shouting match.

Hernandez-Maldonado allegedly cornered the victim and at one point grabbed her by the neck and hair. He also reportedly attempted to choke her at one point. Police photographed red markings on the victim’s neck.

The case has been forwarded to the Mower County Attorney’s office.
