Starting Sunday, 16th Avenue NE will have a new honorary name — Knowlton Avenue.
A street-naming ceremony in honor of Dick and Nancy Knowlton will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday at 16th Ave. and Sixth St. NE. An open house at The Hormel Institute (801 16th Ave. NE) is also planned from 1:30 to 3 p.m. with hot cider, treats and tours. All participants will receive a Knowlton Avenue keychain.
Knowlton is stepping down as chair of the Hormel Foundation on Nov. 30, and members of the foundation wanted to honor him publicly.
City officials said the street name will remain 16th Ave. NE and nobody will need to change their address, but a “Knowlton Avenue” sign will be erected at the intersection.
Knowlton has chaired the Hormel Foundation since 1995.
