Those looking to make their home trendy for the holidays will like what the Hormel Historic Home has in store for this weekend.

The home will feature its first ever “Home for the Holidays” event in which local decorators and private collectors will showcase this year’s holiday decorating trends. Each room in the historic home will be decorated a different way to give inspiration for holiday entertaining, according to the home’s executive director, Laura Helle.

“We have 20 decorated areas done by local businesses or private collectors,” Helle said. “You get to see some really great

architecture and historic woodwork. We’re focusing on trends, so we feel like this is the place you need to go to get ready to decorate your own house.”

Although most of the rooms are Christmas-oriented, some will focus on other holidays like Thanksgiving and Veterans Day. Helle said the Mower County Historical Society and Disabled American Veterans partnered to make one room a salute to veterans, since the event falls on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Along with the decorated rooms, demonstrations will be taking place throughout the weekend to give visitors ideas for their own holiday festivities. Saturday will feature presentations on color combinations and wine selections, Helle said.

Helle is hoping the event is a success because she wants to see it continue in the future. So far, more than 200 people from out of town have purchased tickets and plan to attend. Groups from Kasson, Eden Prairie, East Bethel and Fairmont are bussing in for the event, Helle said.

“We think it’s really going to be a hit,” she said.

Tickets are $7, which includes coffee, dessert and Saturday’s demonstrations. Lunch is available at an additional cost.
