Busy meeting waiting for APS board

Elections, salaries and construction, oh my! The Austin Public School board will be busy this Monday.

The board will certify the results of the Nov. 8 election, where voters approved a $28.9 million bond referendum for a new fifth- and sixth-grade school and Woodson Kindergarten Center expansion. The board will also certify the board election results, as Don Fox, Angie Goetz, Kathy Green and Greg Larson won the school board election.

Board members are expected to approve contracts with district teachers, secretaries, paraprofessionals, custodians and food and nutritional services workers as well. Teachers will have a slight step and lane shift but no overall wage increase over the next two years. Teachers accepted a soft freeze during the last contract in 2009.

The board will hear about Woodson and Southgate Elementary School heating and cooling renovation bids from Mat Miller, director of buildings and grounds as well. The district is in the process of updating elementary schools HVAC units. Sumner and Neveln Elementary Schools were updated last summer.

Austin High School Principal Brad Bergstrom and AHS senior Matt Lunning will be on hand to present the Project Team and Student Union to board members. Both programs are new at the high school this year.
