The Paramount Theatre will be fit to burst with talent this Friday.

The third installment of Austin’s Got Talent takes place at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28.

“These contests can be a huge stepping stone for anyone who wants to break into entertainment,” said Denny Charnecki, local music promoter. Charnecki has put on the show since 2009, although last year’s concert extravaganza was canceled so the performers could be part of the Paramount’s annual New Year’s Eve show.

Almost 30 contestants, many of them familiar faces on Austin’s stage, will perform for the chance to record their own CD and win a Fender Stratocaster, along with several sure performances. The second place winner will also get a chance to record their own CD of music either in Austin or Albert Lea, and the top three contestants will perform with Denny and the DC Drifters along with several Grand Ole Opry stars at this year’s New Year’s Eve show.

Each contestant hopes to become the next Amanda Corey, who won the first Austin’s Got Talent in 2009. Corey went on to sing and headline at festivals and concerts across the country.

“They’ve got to see that there is an opportunity for the next star,” Charnecki said. “Times are right for that. We’re ready for that, we’re ready for some new players in the music industry.”

Advanced tickets are $10, $12 at the door. Students get in for $5.
