Halloween will mean a lot more than just candy and costumes at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Monday evening. The church will hold its Eighth Annual Hallelujah Harvest Festival from 5:30 to 8 p.m., but it’s not just a church dinner, either.

Though there will be a meal, treats and costumes for families to enjoy, the event is all about the kids. The festival features interactive games and displays in which kids can win prizes, treats and learn about the Bible.

“They’re kind of interacting activities meant to engage the kids,” Pastor Thomas Ogilvie said.

Kids will visit stations that depict stories from the bible such as the Lost Sheep, Daniel and the Lions Den, Noah’s Ark and Jonah and the Whale.

“That’s usually one of the more popular attractions,” Ogilvie said about Jonah and the Whale. “The kids really enjoy going through that.”

Kids will enter the whale’s mouth, where they will hear a synopsis of the story. Then they must make their way through a dark maze to get through the whale.

During the festival, there will be a time for everyone to join in the fellowship hall and talk about their blessings and the importance of the fall harvest, as well. Ogilvie said the event will offer a little more substance for families who are looking for something more than just trick-or-treating.

“It really is a family experience,” Ogilvie said.
