Austin and the surrounding communities have a rich history of cultivating talented artists.

Musicians like Martin Zellar, Shannon Frid, and Tony Alonso have used the talents they developed growing up in Austin to become well-known musicians across the nation.

Even performing artists who have remained in our community, like Michael Veldman, Brian Koser, and Alice Holst, have become famous in their own right.

The Paramount Theatre offers a beautiful and unique venue for talented community members from Austin and the surrounding area a place to perform.

Our upcoming Austin’s Got Talent show at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, will be a fantastic showcase of this local performing talent.

We offered the talent show in 2009 with great success. In fact, for some of the contestants, the talent show launched their performing careers.

For example, Amanda Corey competed in the last Austin’s Got Talent competition. Although she didn’t win, Denny Charnecki, co-producer of the competition and founder of the D.C. Drifters, thought there was something special about her.

He invited her to perform with his band on numerous occasions and helped her get other paid singing gigs. According to Charnecki, Amanda was able to bypass the initial steps most artists have to go through to become a professional singer.

Who knows what talented community member could be discovered at this year’s show?

If you are interested in competing, we are still accepting contestants. First, second, and third place winners will receive prizes.

To register, either stop by the Paramount Theatre Monday-Friday 9 a.m to 2 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.to noon or call 434-0934.

Tickets for the show are also available and can be purchased at the theatre, over the phone, or online at www.paramounttheatre.org.
