MINNEAPOLIS — A man convicted of killing three people at a market in south Minneapolis has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Eighteen-year-old Madhi Ali said nothing during sentencing in Hennepin County District Court Monday when Judge Peter Cahill imposed consecutive life sentences in the slayings at Seward Market in January 2010.

A 28-year-old market employee, Osman Elmi, his 30-year-old cousin Mohamed Warfa and a 31-year-old customer, Anwar Mohammed, were fatally shot.

The Star Tribune (http://bit.ly/tsbz87 ) says an accomplice, Ahmed Ali, testified that Mahdi Ali urged him to help rob the market because it had a money transfer business on site. Ahmed Ali pleaded guilty to lesser charges and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
