Habitat for Humanity Freeborn-Mower will dedicate its 19th house in Austin at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at 913 13th Ave. SE.

The new house will belong to Tammy and John Kones and their children, Jaidyn and Serenity. Pastor Mark Hewett of Rochester will participate in the dedication and blessing of the house and family. The public is invited to tour the house at this time before the carpet is installed, finishing work is completed and the family moves in.

Don Hebert, Habitat affiliate president, and Dwayne Faragan, Family Support committee chair, will lead the dedication. Keith Barnes, the site supervisor, will recognize the contributions of the other volunteers.

The home is the 30th constructed in the two-county area for families who have qualified and chosen to partner with Habitat in building and buying. Families must be low income but able to buy the house without paying interest on the mortgage. They contribute to the building by helping and doing other volunteer work. It’s called “sweat equity.”

“Habitat is dedicated to helping families living in substandard housing to find decent, affordable places to live in this community,” Hebert said. “This is the first house our affiliate has completed this summer.”
